Mountain Biking

The Portes du Soleil is without a doubt the most popular and well organised destination for mountain bikers in the whole of Europe. Spanning the French/Swiss border, it caters for every ability – from professional downhill riders looking for an adrenaline buzz, to families simply wishing to explore the beauty of the Alps.

Our chalet is ideally located in the Old Town of Les Gets just minutes to the lifts and town centre, and has a secure garage to store your own bike, plus bike cleaning facilities. You’re welcome to use our washing machine too for your mud-caked clothes!

The reason why Les Gets has become so renowned is because of the ski lift systems already in place, which allow mountain bikers to reach the top of the mountain without peddling! The length and variety of trails is simply unrivaled, and if you’re used to peddling up and down in the UK, you will be blown away by the sheer extent of the area open to bikers.

The Area Covers

What about road biking?
This area is great for mountain biking with a wide range of trails for all levels. The holiday was completed by a great chalet with fabulous facilities, food and hosting by Cat and Jim. Simply the best chalet holiday I’ve had (both skiing and biking) in 15 years in the Alps.

Downhill mountain biking

Les Gets alone boasts 12 downhill runs of varying difficulty, and Morzine has a further 6 – all between 1km and 5kms in length. In Les Gets there are 3 jump parks, 2 northshore trails and various technical zones, so even the most proficient mountain bikers will be truly challenged.

Cross country mountain biking

There are 8 cross country mountain bike trails in Les Gets and Morzine (7 are in Les Gets), and these are between 2km and 7km in length. As with the downhill mountain bike trails, the cross country routes are coded like ski runs, so green is for beginners, blue for intermediate, red for advanced and black for expert!

Family mountain biking

The tracks and trails around Les Gets aren’t just for the experts, and there is a great range of entry level downhill tracks and cross country too. All the trails are categorised by difficulty and are well sign-posted too, so you can easily choose the right track for you and your family.

Lifts and prices for bikers

Lifts are open to mountain bikers from June through to September, though exact dates vary every year. Lift prices range from €24 for a 1 day adult Portes du Soleil pass, and €96 for 6 days (prices for 2014), and children’s passes are cheaper. To save you time, we’re more than happy to arrange your passes for you so that they’re ready and waiting upon your arrival, then you can get on with the serious business of biking!
