Summer in Les Gets is the best

Summer in Les Gets is something we look forward to year after year – there’s something about the village life, stunning scenery and activities that make it a fantastic place to holiday… and work in! We just love the summer lifestyle in the Alps, and here are a few of our favourite things about summer in Les Gets.

Les-Gets-in-summer

The scenery might be the first thing to mention, and I mean not just the stunning mountain vistas, abundant wildlife and flora, but also the village itself – there’s little traffic, flowers hanging from every chalet, and all around the backdrop of lush mountain pastures, and the faint tinkling of cow bells from the herds grazing on the hills.

The village is quiet but not dead, and there are plenty of cafes, ice-cream booths and live open-air gigs throughout the summer months. Les Gets is also good at organising little events throughout the summer  – there’s the Mechanical Music festival where organs and alphorns line the streets, their proud owners dressed in traditional clothing; there’s the lounge festival where blues bands install themselves in cafes all over the village for a long weekend, and various mountain bike events like the PassPortes du Soleil festival, 4X4 competitions and car and bike rallies. In fact rarely a week goes by when there’s not something happening.

Petit-train-in-Les-GetsOne of our favourite things to do is to take the Petit Train (Lucas’s treat) to Les Gets’ lake, or make the short journey to Lake Montriond – we’ve spent hours happily whiling away an afternoon in this fashion, sometimes with a BBQ or picnic.

The activities are of course the major draw to the area, and while we can’t spend every day mountain biking, whitewater rafting, playing golf or horse-riding, we certainly try to fit a little in! Even just going up on the cable car for a short walk or a coffee is a real treat for all of us, and one which we happily partake in on a regular basis!

Walking-in-Les-GetsJim and I really love running the chalet – looking after people is second nature to us, and we love the social aspect of meeting new and interesting people, and of cooking nice food for appreciative tummies! We want every guest to experience Les Gets in the summer months just as we know it, and do our best to help organise your stay so that you can make the most of this beautiful and vibrant holiday destination.
