Mountain biking, the new skiing?

With the winter season having past the half-way mark, Les Gets has started to think about summer, and has just confirmed the opening dates for the summer lifts, so you can start to plan your MTB holiday in the Alps!

From 27th June the mountain will be humming and whirring, taking bikers and walkers alike up the slopes. Some lifts will be working before this date – see our MTB page for more information.

Les Gets offers fantastic opportunities to novice bikers and the seasoned nutter alike, and is part of the Portes du Soleil, Europe’s largest MTB area. Whether you like downhill, cross-country, freeriding, or recreational biking, Les Gets can offer it all.

To celebrate the opening of the lifts, the massive ‘Pass’portes du Soleil’ is scheduled for the 27th and 28th June. Every year nearly 4,000 bikers across the 7 towns that comprise the Portes duSoleil take to the 650kms of trails and 24 lifts, riding from 1000 to 2250m in altitude, in both France and Switzerland.

There are three circuits to choose from: 30, 45 and 75km, all of which reveal the stunning scenery that the area has to offer. Take a pit stop along the trail and taste the regional products and specialities from each village. This is what Morznet.com had to say about last year’s event:

Of course, if you have nerves of steel, you can combine snow and bikes, but kids, don’t go trying it at home.
